Essential Fire Prevention Tips to Share With Your Family
This year’s theme of National Fire Prevention Week is LOOK. LEARN. LISTEN. Many deaths and injuries from fires happen in homes, but fires can happen anywhere. Use these fire safety tips to help prevent and respond to a fire in your home:
• Make sure your smoke alarms work. Choose interconnected alarms so when one sounds, they all sound.
• Don’t be caught off guard. Place smoke alarms inside and outside every bedroom. Make sure everyone in your home knows how the alarms sound.
• Smoke alarms don’t last forever. Test alarms every month. If your alarms are 10 years old or older, it’s time to replace them.
• When you hear a smoke alarm, you may have less than two minutes to get everyone outside and safe. Identify a safe meeting place near your home. Make sure that everyone in your family knows where to go when they hear the alarm.
