Marriage License Information

WHO SHOULD APPLY IN NORTH BRUNSWICK:
Applicants who reside in North Brunswick or if the applicants are from out of state & the ceremony will take place in North Brunswick.

WHERE TO APPLY:
North Brunswick Municipal Clerk’s Office
By appointment only, Monday thru Thursday 9am-3pm.

PERSONS REQUIRED TO BE PRESENT FOR LICENSE APPLICATION:
Both applicants and 1 witness who is 18 years or older & knows the couple and speaks English.

ITEMS REQUESTED AT TIME OF APPLICATION:
1-Valid NJ drivers license with current North Brunswick address or valid passport
2-Social Security number of both applicants
3-Proof of residency (ie. Current utility bill, tax return, drivers license)
4-If previously married, divorce decree, annulment papers or certified copy of death certificate, whichever applies.
5-$28 fee, CASH ONLY EXACT CHANGE.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION NEEDED WHEN APPLYING:
1-Couple must know parents place of birth.
2-Mother’s maiden name
3-Name, title & address of person performing ceremony

WHEN TO COME IN & WAITING PERIOD AFTER FILLING OUT OF APPLICATION:
It is recommended to come in 3-4 weeks before your ceremony. There is a mandated 72 hour waiting period from the time of application (remember we are closed on weekends).

License is valid for 30 days from the date of pick up.

FILING OF LICENSE:
The license will be recorded in the municipality where the ceremony took place.

CERTIFIED COPY OF MARRIAGE:
Certified copies can be purchased from the municipality where the ceremony took place.
