North Brunswick honored United States Air Force veteran Darrell E. Lyles Sr. by dedicating Constitution Circle and Society Way as Lyles Way on Monday, June 30.

Darrell Sr. was born on September 17, 1960 in Brooklyn, New York. He moved to New Jersey and resided in North Brunswick New Jersey for the past thirty years.

Darrell Sr. was educated in the Catholic schools of the Archdiocese of New York. After graduating from Bishop Ford High School, Darrell graduated from Virginia Union University. Soon after, he enlisted in the United States Air Force as a Navigational Systems Specialist. While still in the military, Darrell Sr. met his wife. On November 23, 1985, he was united in holy matrimony to Rhonda and they had two sons: Darrell Jr. and Daniel.

Darrell Sr.served in the Air Force and Army National Guard from 1981 – 1992. Darrell went to Biloxi, Mississippi in 1982 for bootcamp training. Stationed at McGuire Air Force Base from 1983 until 1992 when he was injured. He served in The Gulf War.

Darrell Sr.received an Air Force Training Ribbon.

Darrell Sr.worked for the United States Postal Service and thereafter for New York City as a fearless City Inspector. As an active community member, Darrell was an elected Committeeman for the Township of North Brunswick for more than two decades. He loved watching world news, fishing with his buddies, and making gourmet meals for his wife.

Darrell Sr.after his passing, left behind a beautiful wife, Rhonda C. Lyles, 2 sons, 2 grandchildren and wonderful family and friends who keeps Darrell Sr. memory alive.

North Brunswick honored United States Navy veteran Jeffrey Dominguez by dedicating Timber Ridge Road and Renaissance Boulevard East as Dominguez Way on Monday, June 16.

Jeffrey was born on June 24, 1988 in the Bronx, New York and is now a resident of North Brunswick.

Jeffrey is a DeVry University graduate, earning his degree in Information Technology.

Jeffrey served in the United States Navy. He had his service training in F/A-18 Aviation Structural Mechanic, Infantry/Gun Crew Seamanship. He was part of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom.

Jeffrey completed 2 deployments while attached to the USS Nassau and USS Bush completing its ‘Maiden Voyage’ deployment. Jeffrey received the Humanitarian Award for assisting Haiti after the earthquake in 2010. These deployments provided maritime support operations to the Mediterranean, Red Sea and Arabian Sea (5^th and 6^th Fleets) and airstrikes in Yemen with naval patrols at the Horn of Africa.

During his service, Jeffrey earned medals in Aviation Warfare, Navy Good Conduct, Global War on Terrorism and Expeditionary, National Defense Service, Sea Service Deployment and multiple Plane Capt. of the Month awards.

Jeffrey lives a wonderful life with his wife, Kimberly Dominguez and three children Eva, Ethan and Emery. Jeffrey Dominguez is a proud North Brunswick Police Officer and a dedicated veteran who has served both our community and our country.

The Middlesex County Improvement Authority (MCIA) is pleased to announce the implementation of Automatic Side Load (ASL) service beginning August 1, 2025.

ASL service utilizes 95-gallon wheeled carts with lids which will replace the blue barrels or rectangular carts currently in use. You are receiving your new cart in advance of the start of the program which is August 1, 2025. You should continue using your existing blue containers until your first recycling pick-up in August at which time you MUST use your new cart. The cart delivered to you has a serial number and barcode linked to your address. If you should move out of your address, the cart must remain for the new resident. You may keep your old totes and bins if you wish, however they can no longer be used for curbside recycling once ASL service begins on August 1. You can recycle your old blue containers by placing them in the new cart for pick-up.

PLEASE NOTE THAT YOUR RECYCLING SCHEDULE IS NOT CHANGING!

On collection day please follow these ASL rules:

No materials left on the ground or next to the cart will be picked up by the ASL vehicle.

The cart must be easily accessible from the street at a minimum 4 ft clear on both sides

Place the cart at the curbline in front of the curb or on top of the curb with the silver pick-up bar on the front of the cart facing the street and the wheels facing your home.

Please continue to follow all recycling guidelines and rules for the type of materials you can put in the cart for pick-up. The carts are for single stream comingled materials so all your approved recyclables can be placed in the cart.

The Department of Public Works was honored by Mayor Francis ‘Mac’ Womack and the Township Council for their efforts in facilitating the movement of Township departments back into the Municipal Building in recent months.

“Our DPW employees have exhibited exceptional dedication while working long hours under challenging conditions to help maintain services to our community,” the proclamation read.

Mayor Womack said that in addition to DPW’s work in getting staff back into the building, they are there when it snows, there is a water main break or there are sewer or pothole issues. “You are the guys who really come through,” he said.

DPW Director Steve Bloyed commended his staff, who worked under challenging conditions over the past year.

“Everybody just came to work and did their jobs,” he said. “It is a testament to you guys, our young staff, that really shined this past year for us.”

Under an overcast sky and cool breeze, spirits were high at Sabella Park on Monday, April 21 as a blue ribbon was cut to celebrate the park’s new turf field.

It is a significant moment for the Township as it is New Jersey’s first Pivot field. Pivot was created by TenCate’s Center for Turf Innovation (CTI) following years of research and development. By leveraging cutting-edge technology and ongoing testing, CTI perfected the blend of traditional, durable sports fibers with new materials that closely resemble the look and feel of natural grass.

Pivot eliminates nearly 100% of plastic shedding because there’s no conventional infill, which causes abrasion and shedding of the turf.

“We’re proud of it,” said North Brunswick Parks & Playgrounds manager Robert Bongiovi. “The kids of this town will have the best playing surface to play on for years to come.”

The materials used for the Sabella Park field is the same as Rice University’s football stadium, which replaced its playing surface last year following the effects of Hurricane Beryl.

The field also utilizes GeoCool, a cooling additive, which can help dissipate heat and reduce surface temperatures. GeoCool is made from a renewable inorganic mineral that’s 100% recyclable and non-toxic.

“This field is great for the kids of North Brunswick, coming up and playing football,” said North Brunswick Township High School football coach Mike Cipot. “They have something to look forward to and something to be proud of that they have a state of the art field.”

The ribbon cutting ceremony comes nearly five months after the field sustained damage due to a sewer main break on November 30. Public Works Director Steve Bloyed thanked Mayor Francis ‘Mac’ Womack, the Township Council and Business Administrator Justine Progebin for their support with the field replacement project.

An extended detour is in place along Hidden Lake Drive just beyond the Route 27 entrance while emergency repairs are made to the culvert by Middlesex County.
