Veterans honored at Elmwood Cemetery Ceremony

It was a special and memorable day at Elmwood Cemetery on Thursday, November 11 as our veterans were honored.

The ceremony included dedications of a ‘Missing Man’ POW/MIA chair and Never Forget Garden to remember those unnamed American veterans who have made the ultimate sacrifice for the sake of our country as well as honoring the Centennial of the Tomb of the Unknown Solider in Arlington Cemetery.

To visit the Never Forget Garden, enter Elmwood Cemetery at 425 Georges Road, North Brunswick. Upon entering the cemetery, stay straight and then stay to the left with the open field on the left.

The Never Forget Garden is at the end of the brick Memorial Walk adjacent to the Memorial Columbarium.

Spotted Lanternfly Resources

Spotted Lanternfly (SLF), Lycorma delicatula, is an invasive planthopper native to China, India, and Vietnam; it is also established in South Korea, Japan and the U.S. It was first discovered in the U.S. in Pennsylvania in Berks County in 2014 and has spread to other counties in PA, as well as the states of New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, New York, Connecticut and Ohio.

This insect has the potential to greatly impact agricultural crops and hardwood trees. SLF feeds on the plant sap of many different plants including grapevines, maples, black walnut, and other important plants in NJ. While it does not harm humans or animals, it can reduce the quality of life for people living in heavily infested areas.

If you see a Spotted Lanternfly, you are advised to Stomp it Out! To report Spotted Lanternfly, please visit the following link: https://badbug.nj.gov

Important Alert regarding postcard marked “Water Update”

The Township of North Brunswick is aware of a postcard being sent to homeowners titled, “Water Update.” It says they have been unable to reach the resident and immediate response is requested with contact information listed. See images of the postcard below.

This postcard was NOT sent by the Township of North Brunswick. The Township does not solicit “Water Updates.” North Brunswick, through its partnership with American Water Contract Services, does send a Consumer Confidence Report (also posted on the Township website) annually to residents, providing an update on the Township’s water quality. The Township’s phone number for any water/sewer billing inquires & complaints is (732) 247-0922, ext. 458.

The company on the postcard, Atlantic Water Products (AWP), solicits water treatment products for residential use and asks for name and phone number to set up an appointment to conduct water testing.

At the very least, the postcard’s message is misleading and we urge residents to NOT respond to it. Also, we urge all residents to never provide their personal information to strangers.
