DPRCS Community Awards

Scholar Athlete Artist Award

The Department of Parks, Recreation & Community Services works with our local schools to present monthly awards to scholar / athlete / artist students who have participated in sports, the arts, or community service projects while still maintaining high academic achievements. Open to North Brunswick residents in grades 3-12. Students attending private school are still eligible. To nominate a student for the award, please e-mail DPRCS Director Lou Ann Benson at lbenson@northbrunswicknj.gov.

Young Adult Peer Advocate Award

This award is presented annually to a youth who distinguishes himself/herself by demonstrating examples of strong character , leadership skills, and a positive attitude which influences the youth of North Brunswick. The award is presented in December. Nominations can be submitted to Lou Ann Benson at lbenson@northbrunswicknj.gov

Youth Advocate Award

The award is presented to an individual that has dedicated their time and effort for the benefit of the youth of our town. Nominees must be a North Brunswick resident and have established a record of rendering outstanding service to our community. The award is presented in December. Nominations can be submitted to Lou Ann Benson at lbenson@northbrunswicknj.gov.

Ann Marie Chandlee Heritage Day Award

The Ann Marie Chandlee Heritage Award is bestowed each year to a township resident who has been dedicated to improving the quality of life in North Brunswick as a volunteer with a non-profit group or civic organization for an extended period of time. Submissions must be made in writing and must include a detailed description of why the nominee is deserving of the honor. Specific information regarding the nominee’s involvement in the community must be included. Nominations may be submitted to the Heritage Day Committee, 710 Hermann Road, North Brunswick, NJ 08902.

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Award

The Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Award is bestowed in January to individuals in the community who embrace the spirit and actions of Dr. King by their service. There is a School Award category which honors educators as well as students and a Community Service Award. Nominations may be submitted to Lou Ann Benson at lbenson@northbrunswicknj.gov.

Grandparent/s of the Year

DPRCS continues its mission to recognize the people who make a difference in the lives of others. Nominations for the award are accepted in the form of a one page, typed explanation of why the nominated grandparent/s deserve the title of “Grandparent/s of the Year.” Entries must include the name, address and phone number of both the nominee and the nominator.

Nominations for the 2021-2022 Award must be be submitted by August 1, 2021 to Lou Ann Benson at lbenson@northbrunswicknj.gov. Recipients will be awarded in September near Grandparents Day!
