The Registrar of Vital Statistics records all marriages, births and deaths which occur in North Brunswick Township. The responsibilities of Registrar include: processing and issuing marriage licenses, and providing certified copies of vital events that occur in the Township.
Certified Copies
Certified Copies of events that take place in North Brunswick can be requested. Certified Copies have the raised seal of the office issuing the record and are always issued on State of New Jersey safety paper. Certified copies may be used to establish identity and are legal documents. The cost of $25 for the first copy and $2 for each additional requested at the same time.
Marriage Information
Apply for the Marriage License in the New Jersey municipality where either party resides.
If neither applicant is a New Jersey resident, submit the application in the municipality where the marriage ceremony will be performed. In this case, the license is only valid in the issuing municipality.
A Marriage License may not be used outside of New Jersey, and a license issued in another state may not be used in New Jersey.
Marriage Licenses are processed by appointment only. Please call the Municipal Clerk’s Office (732) 247-0922 x 470 to request an appointment. Please note, the date of ceremony, and name and address of the Officiant performing the ceremony is required to complete the application. Due to the number of applications we process, please call a minimum of 3 weeks prior to your ceremony date for your license appointment.
WHAT TO BRING TO THE APPOINTMENT
- Marriage Application complete through Box 11 only.
- Proof of identity by presenting an unexpired driver’s license, state/federal I.D or passport.
- Proof of residency as a North Brunswick resident. (Unless neither party is a NJ resident and the ceremony will take place in North Brunswick.)
- A witness, 18 years of age or older with valid proof of identity
- $28 payment in exact cash, check, or credit/debit card
There is a minimum 72- hour waiting time before a marriage license can be issued. Once issued, the license must be used within 30 days of the pick-up date and is only valid within the State of New Jersey.
