We are exploring ways to improve Sabella Park to better meet the community’s needs. NJDEP’s Green Acres program provides grants to municipalities and counties to build accessible playgrounds and improve public facilities. As one of the Township’s largest and most used parks, there are two projects that have been identified that meet the parameters of the Green Acres program and would be welcome improvements to the North Brunswick community at large:
1. Inclusive Playground: This proposed project will replace aging playground equipment at Sabella Park with an inclusive playground design (see renderings below). This project will eliminate safety concerns and include the following improvements: replace outdated playground equipment with inclusive playground concept, replace mulch with accessible rubber bond surface, remove three aging trees, install fencing, and pour concrete walkway to establish accessible connection to playground.
2. Public Building Updates/Reconstruction: This proposed project will demolish the existing, outdated building with public restrooms, a kitchen, and a storage area which has sustained significant damage due to frequent flooding. The new building is proposed with the same amenities on the existing concrete pad adjacent to the current building. This will move the structure to an area with a lesser likelihood of flooding. Since this building is highly used by the Township for various outdoor recreation activities, the new building will be designed to be more resilient and withstand future weather events.
Your feedback is essential to help us prioritize enhancements and amenities for these projects. Please take a few minutes to complete this survey to help with the design process.
The public is encouraged to attend a public hearing to learn more about the Township’s two Green Acres proposals and to ask questions or provide comments on the proposed plan on Monday, January 27 at 7 p.m.
The meeting will be held in person as part of the regularly scheduled Township Council Meeting.
